Ask Studio
Ask Studio is an AI-powered conversational assistant built directly into YouTube Studio. It lets creators ask plain-language questions about their channel — things like "why did this video underperform" or "what are people saying in my comments" — and get personalized answers, summaries, and content suggestions based on their own channel data.
Ask Studio launched at YouTube's Made on YouTube event in late 2025 and has expanded steadily since. It is one of a growing set of generative-AI tools inside YouTube Studio, alongside features like auto-dubbing.
What Ask Studio actually does
Google describes Ask Studio as working across three areas of a channel:
- Comments — summarizing themes, sentiment, and recurring requests across one video or many
- Analytics — explaining performance data such as traffic sources, browse features, suggested videos, engaged views, and audience makeup (unique viewers, regular viewers, returning viewers) in plain language instead of raw dashboards
- Content planning — generating video ideas, titles, hooks, and outlines based on what has already worked on the channel
It can also review scripts and unpublished videos (drafts, private, or unlisted uploads) and give creative feedback before you publish — a genuinely useful pre-flight check that's easy to miss if you only think of Ask Studio as an analytics tool.

What Ask Studio can't do (a common misconception)
Ask Studio is a suggestion engine, not an autopilot. It can draft titles, outlines, and Idea cards you can save to the Inspiration tab — but it does not edit your video's title, description, thumbnail, or any other setting for you. You still have to copy a suggestion into YouTube Studio's editor and hit Save yourself. If a piece of content implies Ask Studio "acts on your behalf" inside your channel, treat that with skepticism — no official documentation or hands-on review confirms autonomous publishing actions as of mid-2026.
It also won't:
- Connect you to YouTube Creator Support
- Give reliable medical, legal, or financial advice (Google's own disclaimer says not to rely on it for this)
- Guarantee accuracy — quality varies by question, and vague prompts ("tell me about my channel") produce vague answers
Creators who've stress-tested it report real failure modes worth knowing about: it can miss context (like recommending a mobile-only tutorial for a feature that doesn't exist on mobile), apply generic advice as if universal (e.g., "always show your face in thumbnails," when A/B testing thumbnails is the actually reliable practice), and misjudge things like optimal livestream timing or sponsorship-driven engagement. Treat its output as a first draft for your thinking, not a final answer.
Who has access, and where
- Platform: Web browser only, via studio.youtube.com. Ask Studio is not available in the YouTube Studio mobile app.
- Where to find it: A sparkle icon in the top-right corner of YouTube Studio, and suggested prompts inside the Analytics tab.
- Countries/languages: Ask Studio launched as English-only and U.S.-limited in late 2025. It has since expanded — YouTube's own Help Center now describes it as available to "most" creators globally, with hands-on reports through early 2026 documenting rollout across the US, Canada, the UK, the EEA, Latin America, India, and New Zealand, and strong support for English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, and Dutch. Because rollout is ongoing, treat any specific country/language list — including this one — as a snapshot rather than a permanent boundary, and check the official Help Center for the current state.
- Reported exclusions: Multiple sources indicate Ask Studio is not available to Official Artist Channels, Made for Kids channels, or creators under 18. We could not locate a direct, quotable Google statement listing all three exclusions verbatim, so treat this as reported-but-not-independently-confirmed until Google's help documentation states it explicitly.
- No subscriber threshold: There's no evidence of a subscriber-count or view-count gate — access appears to be rolled out by account/channel eligibility rather than channel size.
Data privacy: what happens to your conversations
- Ask Studio only uses data from your own channel and audience — other creators cannot ask questions about your channel.
- Your visible conversation history (added June 2026) is kept for 30 days before automatic deletion, and you can delete any thread manually at any time.
- Separately, the backend interaction data tied to your channel is deleted automatically after 45 days — a different, slightly longer window than the visible chat list.
- Human reviewers may read conversations to improve the product; Google says conversations are disconnected from your Google Account first, with automated tools attempting to strip personal details like emails and phone numbers before review.
- Avoid pasting anything confidential — Google's own guidance is not to share information you wouldn't want a reviewer to see.
How to start using Ask Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio (or go directly to studio.youtube.com/?d=as) on a desktop browser.
- Click the sparkle/Ask Studio icon in the top-right corner.
- Use a suggested prompt, or type your own — the more specific the question, the more useful the answer.
- Add a specific video to the conversation using the "Add" control in the chat box if you want feedback tied to one upload.
- Save any suggestion you like as an Idea card from the Inspiration tab for later refinement.

Is Ask Studio free to use?
Yes. It's included in YouTube Studio at no extra cost for eligible creators — there's no separate subscription or fee mentioned anywhere in YouTube's documentation.
