Private Video
A Private video is a YouTube upload that can be watched only by the creator and the specific viewers the creator chooses to invite.
Private videos do not appear on the channel's Videos tab, in YouTube search, recommendations, related-video lists, or subscriber feeds. Comments are not available.
Who Can Watch a Private Video?
- The video owner
- Authorized channel users with appropriate access
- Specific viewers invited through YouTube's Share privately workflow
Invited viewers must sign in with the Google or YouTube account associated with the email address the creator approved. Sending the ordinary video URL to someone else does not grant access.
How to Share a Private Video
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Content.

- Open the Visibility box.
- Select Share privately.
- Enter the viewer's email address.
- Save the invitation.
YouTube's older-unlisted security documentation states that Private videos can be shared with up to 50 email addresses. The invited viewers need compatible Google or YouTube accounts.

Can Private Videos Have Comments?
No. YouTube says comments are not available on Private videos. Comments that existed while the video was Public or Unlisted are not necessarily deleted, but they are unavailable while the video remains Private.
If feedback is required, use an Unlisted video, a separate review platform, email, a shared document, or another commenting system.
Can Private Videos Be Embedded?
A Private video cannot be used as an ordinary unrestricted website embed. Visitors who are not specifically approved and signed in cannot watch it merely because the player appears on a webpage.
Changing an embedded Unlisted or Public video to Private can break playback on websites, apps, learning systems, and client portals.
Can YouTube Review Private Videos?
Yes. YouTube explicitly says its systems and human reviewers may review Private videos for:

Does Private Preserve Views and Comments?

YouTube's scheduled publishing system keeps a video Private until the chosen publication time. This lets creators upload early, complete processing and checks, and then automatically release the same upload as Public.
A manually Private video will not become Public unless the creator publishes or schedules it.

Private videos do not appear in subscriber feeds and do not send ordinary upload notifications. When a Private video is later made Public for the first time, publication can use normal feed and notification behavior, subject to the creator's notification setting and YouTube's limits.

Confirm the exact approved account instead of repeatedly resending the ordinary link.
Can Invited Viewers Download or Record It?
Private visibility does not guarantee that an authorized viewer cannot capture the screen, record the audio, photograph the display, or otherwise reproduce the content.
Use contracts, watermarking, secure review platforms, and minimum necessary sharing when leak prevention matters. No consumer video-sharing permission completely controls what an authorized viewer does after playback reaches their device.
