Timeline
A video editing timeline is the workspace where a creator arranges video clips, audio, images, titles, graphics, transitions, and effects in chronological order. Time runs horizontally, while stacked tracks let multiple visual and audio elements overlap.

Slide edit
A slide moves one clip earlier or later while trimming the neighboring clips to preserve the total duration.

A timeline clip usually points to a range within the original media. Trimming changes the in and out points used by the sequence, not the source file stored on the drive.
