YouTube Advanced Features are a channel-level eligibility tier that YouTube unlocks after a creator completes identity verification. Verification requires a phone number plus one additional trust signal — either sufficient channel history, valid ID verification, or video verification. Once unlocked, advanced features include longer daily upload limits, live streaming access, custom thumbnails, pinned comments, Content ID claim appeals, and the ability to apply for YouTube Partner Program monetization.
Advanced features sit at the top of a three-tier system: Standard → Intermediate → Advanced. Each tier requires more trust from YouTube than the last, and losing that trust (through Community Guidelines strikes or copyright strikes) can push a channel back down a tier.
Not the same as YouTube Advanced Mode. "Advanced features" (this page) is about what actions your channel is allowed to take. YouTube Advanced Mode is a completely different thing — the expanded analytics/reporting screen inside YouTube Studio. The two share a word, nothing else.
What Are YouTube Advanced Features?
Advanced features are the highest tier of a feature-access system YouTube uses to fight spam, scams, and abuse. Rather than granting every tool to every new channel immediately, YouTube phases access in as a channel demonstrates it's run by a real person who follows the rules.
Getting access to advanced features doesn't cost anything and isn't the same as being "YouTube verified" with a checkmark badge, and it isn't the same as YouTube Partner Program monetization — it's a prerequisite building block for some of both, but each has its own separate requirements (see YouTube Partner Program below).

Correcting a common error: Several popular guides list "appealing Content ID claims" as something phone verification alone unlocks. Per YouTube's current official documentation, that's incorrect — a Content ID claim appeal is an Advanced feature. Phone verification gets you into the Intermediate tier; appealing a Content ID claim requires the full Advanced tier (channel history or ID/video verification on top of the phone number).

How to Verify Your Channel for Advanced Features
Verification happens in YouTube Studio under Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility, and it's a two-step process.
Step 1: Complete phone verification (unlocks Intermediate)
- Sign in to YouTube Studio as the primary channel owner.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility → Intermediate features → Verify phone number.
- Enter a phone number. YouTube sends a code by text or voice call.
- Enter the code to confirm.
This alone unlocks Intermediate features (longer videos, live streaming, custom thumbnails, podcasts). A phone number can be used to verify a maximum of 2 channels per year.
Step 2: Unlock Advanced features
After phone verification, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility → Advanced features → Access features and choose one of:
- Build channel history. Keep uploading, stay compliant with YouTube's Community Guidelines, and avoid strikes. Most active, established channels qualify automatically without doing anything extra. YouTube doesn't publish a fixed timeline for a first-time unlock, but it states that channels rebuilding lost access can typically do so within about 2 months of clean activity — a reasonable benchmark, not a guarantee.
- Verify with a valid ID. Choose "Use your ID," get an email or scan a QR code, open it on your phone, photograph your ID (the birthdate must match your Google Account), and submit. Review usually takes 24 hours.
- Verify with video. Choose "Use video verification," open the emailed link on your phone, and follow prompts (such as turning your head) to record a short verification video. Review usually takes 24 hours.
Note: ID and video verification aren't offered to every creator or in every country. If you don't see those options, channel history is your only route.
If a verification attempt is rejected twice, YouTube requires a 30-day wait before trying either method again.
Can Advanced Features Be Revoked?
Yes. Advanced feature access isn't permanent. YouTube can restrict it if a channel:
- Receives a Community Guidelines strike or a copyright strike
- Repeatedly posts spam, scams, or misleading metadata
- Engages in harassment, impersonation, or other policy violations
- Stops maintaining a positive channel history
If access is restricted, YouTube emails the channel owner. Access can be restored the same two ways it was earned: rebuilding channel history, or resubmitting ID or video verification.
ID and video verification data isn't kept indefinitely — it's typically deleted a few months after a channel builds sufficient history, or after 1 year of not using advanced features, with a hard cap of 3 years for abuse-prevention purposes. Creators can also delete it manually anytime from their Google Account, though doing so before establishing channel history means losing advanced-feature access until they rebuild history or re-verify.
Advanced Features vs. the YouTube Partner Program
These are related but not the same thing. Advanced feature access (channel history or ID/video verification) is one listed component needed to apply for YouTube Partner Program monetization — but clearing it doesn't make a channel eligible for the Partner Program on its own. Full YPP eligibility separately requires:
- 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours in the trailing 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers and 10 million valid public Shorts views in the trailing 90 days
- No active Community Guidelines strikes
- Two-step verification enabled on the Google Account
- Residing in a country where YPP is available
In short: advanced features unlock the ability to apply; YPP's own thresholds determine whether that application is accepted.
Who Can Verify: Owners vs. Delegates
Only the primary channel owner can complete phone, ID, or video verification — this can't be delegated. If your channel uses a Brand Account with multiple people managing it via channel permissions, managers, editors, and other roles inherit whatever feature tier the primary owner has verified into. They cannot independently unlock a higher tier for themselves, and they can't complete verification on the owner's behalf.
If you're signed in as a delegate and see the error "Advanced YouTube features aren't available for this account," it almost always means you're not the primary owner — check with whoever holds that role.

Is "YouTube Advanced Features" the same as "YouTube Advanced Mode"?
No. Advanced features is an identity-verification eligibility tier that controls what actions your channel can take (uploads, live streaming, pinned comments, etc.). YouTube Advanced Mode is a Studio analytics reporting view for filtering and exporting performance data. They're unrelated beyond the shared word "advanced."
Does unlocking advanced features mean my channel is monetized?
No. It's a prerequisite for applying to the YouTube Partner Program, not a monetization approval. You still need to separately meet YPP's subscriber, watch-time (or Shorts views), and strike-free requirements.
Can my editor or channel manager verify the channel for me?
